Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....
There are 2 threatened species in New South Wales matching the above criteria which have current Priority action plans. A total of 14 current Priority actions have been identified to help recover these species.

Map habitat and populations, assessing habitat condition and estimating abundance and extent of populations. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
Identify important populations for detailed monitoring. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
Protect areas of known habitat from timber harvesting and other land clearing. Avoid bisecting habitat with roads or tracks. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs High
Community awareness is important to assist in detecting new locations, and assistance with habitat rehabilitation projects should be encouraged. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs High
Provide map of known occurrences to Rural Fire Service and seek inclusion on Bush Fire Risk Management Plan(s), risk register and operation map(s). Include or review the hazard reduction conditions on the Threatened Species Hazard Reduction List. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs High
Survey potential habitat for the species prior to road and track maintenance. Assess need to protect trackside plants. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Low
Identify critical factors limiting the recovery of the species. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs High
Develop 'interim' minimum fire frequency recommendations based on best available knowledge. Undertake research (for both the species and habitat) to determine minimum fire frequency. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
Ensure DEC regional fire plans, protected area fire plans and hazard reduction burn guidelines include protection for the species and its habitat. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs High
Ensure threats to the species are adequately considered in parks and reserves management planning and implement relevant management actions. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
Ensure land managers and other stakeholders are aware of populations and habitat, and that recovery requirements are taken into account in PoMs, fire plans, pest management plans and other statutory plans. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
Implement Bitou bush control as described in the approved TAP. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
Control weeds in populations shown to be affected by weed burden. Xylosma terrae-reginae Queensland Xylosma Plant > Shrubs Medium
