Threats
- Clearing and fragmentation of habitat for coastal development.
- Clearing and fragmentation of habitat for agricultural development.
- Species has not been known to recruit at any location.
- Clearing and fragmentation of habitat from road construction and maintenance.
- Fire.
- Infestation of habitat by weeds.
- Trampling of seedlings and saplings by visitors.
- Risk of local extinction due to small population size.
Recovery strategies
Priority actions are the specific, practical things that must be done to recover a threatened species, population or ecological
community. The Office of Environment and Heritage has identified
13 priority actions
to help recover the Queensland Xylosma in New South Wales.
Activities to assist this species
- Protect areas of littoral and subtropical rainforest from clearing or development.
- Prevent fire in areas of known habitat.
- Control introduced weeds in areas of known habitat.
- Support local Landcare, Coastcare and bush regeneration groups raise the profile of the species and undertake onground works.
- Keep to established tracks to avoid trampling on small plants.
- Expand and connect remaining areas of rainforest habitat.
- Report new records of Queensland Xylosma to the OEH.
- Maintain viable ex-situ collection.
- Exclude domestic stock from areas of known habitat.
- Protect known roadside populations from disturbance.
- Prevent ornamental plants and weeds from escaping from gardens into nearby rainforest.
