Description

Pomaderris oraria is a shrub that grows to 50 cm tall with stems rusty stellate-tomentose.

The leaves are ovate to broad- elliptic, usually 1–2 cm long, 5–15 mm wide, and margins are crenate, often with a whitish border. The upper surface of the leaves is glabrous; and the lower surface tomentose with rusty stellate hairs.

Flowers are yellow, pedicellate in loose panicles. Sepals are persistent in fruit. Petals are absent.

Capsule and hypanthium have only short stellate hairs.

Distribution

Pomaderris oraria is presumed to be extinct in NSW. Its current distribution is now in Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

Habitat and ecology

  • Habitat includes wind-pruned coastal scrubs, and low forest dominated by drooping sheoak.
  • This species is sensitive to fire and benefits from soil disturbance; recruitment is from the soil seed bank after gap-forming disturbance.
