Description

Warty Zieria is a shrub to 3.5 m tall with warty branches. The leaves are comprised of 3 narrow leaflets (trifoliate) that are densely-warty land to 50 mm long by 3.5 mm wide. Leaflets are dull green on the upper surface and whitish on the lower surface and are covered with star-shaped hairs that can be seen with a hand lens. The flowers accur in large clusters at the ends of the branchlets. Individual flowers are creamy-white with four petals to 4 mm long.

Distribution

Warty Zieria grows in the Mt Dromedary and Tilba Tilba area. A total of 13 sites are currently known and the total population (all age clsses) is about 3,000 plants. The population in the Cambewarra Mountain area near Nowra is now referable to a separate taxon.

Habitat and ecology

The Warty Zieria grows in heath amongst rocky outcrops on rain forest edges and in tall forest and shrubland.
The flowers appear from late winter to spring.

Threats

Woody weed invasion, particularly Lantana, resulting in loss of habitat.
Grazing and trampling of plants and habitat by grazing stock.
Risk of wildfire destroying local populations.
Most sites are on private land. Whilst many of the current owners are supportive of protecting this species, future owners of the properties may not be as sympathetic to the protection of the species.
