Description

A spreading shrub to 2 m high or occasionally to 4 m high. The branchlets are covered with long hairs when young and the leaf undersurface is also hairy. The narrow leaves are 2 to 6 cm long and less than 1 cm wide. The flowers are green and maroon and form at the end of the branchlets.

Distribution

Known from the north coast of NSW, at Booral near Bulahdelah and on the Carrai Plateau, south-west of Kempsey.

Habitat and ecology

Grows along creeks and cliff lines in eucalypt forest, on granitic or sedimentary soil.

Threats

Inappropriate fire regimes. Too frequent fires can inhibit regeneration.
Clearing of habitat.
Damage from grazing stock.
Susceptibility to dieback caused by root rot fungus (Phytophthora cinnamomi).
Various exotic weeds are encroaching on the population, causing competition for resources and space.
Inappropriate land management and/or changes in land use across the different landowners
