Scientific name: Eucalyptus pachycalyx subsp. banyabba
Profile last updated:
13 Mar 2023
Description
Grows up to 10 m tall but is usually shorter, and sometimes forms mallee-like multiple trunks. The bark is smooth from the base and its colour is a metallic light or dark grey, yellow and orange. It sheds bark in scales, somewhat like spotted gums. The juvenile leaves are oval-shaped and dull grey-green. Adult leaves are similar in colour but are lance-shaped and broader, with thin, drawn-out tips. They are 5 – 13 cm long. The buds, in clusters of seven, are egg-shaped with a warty surface and the fruits are lumpy and cup-shaped.

Activities to assist this species
- Stay on established tracks in the Banyabba area to avoid trampling seedlings.
- Implement appropriate fire regime and avoid frequent fires.
- Identify populations and protect them during roadworks.
- Notify the DPE of any new occurrences.
- Ensure ex-situ seedbank is maintained.
- Undertake research into appropriate fire regime and other habitat and ecological requirements for the species.
