Description

Shrub 1–3 m high, stems rusty with short simple and stellate hairs. Leaves ovate to ? circular, 1–3 cm long, 8–15 mm wide, upper surface dark green, ? velvety with very short erect hairs; lower surface greyish with longer appressed rusty simple hairs, secondary veins prominent with rusty simple hairs. Flowers yellow, in small terminal panicles. Sepals not persistent in fruit. Petals usually absent. Capsule and hypanthium covered with fine stellate tomentum below fine whitish scattered simple hairs.

Distribution

Confined to the Cocoparra Ranges near Griffith. An isolated population also occurs 65 kilometres east of the Ranges on private land north of Ardlethan.

Threats

Browsing from feral goats degrades habitat, removes plants and inhibits recruitment.
Potential for too-infrequent fire to lead to senescence and constrain population growth.
Limited knowledge of the species' abundance and distribution across its full range.
Some populations may be vulnerable to grazing practices on private land.
The response to fire is not well understood. The plant may be killed by fire, or may resprout. The longevity of the seedbank is not known. The age to first flowering is not known.
