Description

Described in Toelken and A.F. Robinson (in litt. 2014)
Hibbertia sp. Turramurra (Hibbertia spanantha) is a decumbent shrublet up to 30cm high with moderately branched main branches and branchlets with simple hairs. Branches are wiry / woody, with long decurrent leaf bases. Leaves are linear to linear - oblanceolate and approximaly 6mm long x less than 1mm wide. Leaves are hairy when young, becoming rough later with down curved margins. Flowers are bright yellow and approximately 20mm in width.

Distribution

Endemic to NSW where it is restricted to six known locations. It may occur at other locations that are currently unknown.

Habitat and ecology

Grows in forest with canopy species including Eucalyptus pilularis, E. resinifera, Corymbia gummifera and Angophora costata. The understorey is open with species of Poaceae, Orchidaceae, Fabaceae and Liliaceae.
Flowering in October and November, but with an odd flower throughout the year.
The soil is identified as a light clay occuring on a shale sandstone soil transition.

Threats

Highly restricted geographical distribution, and only a small number of mature individuals known from a limited number of populations.
The populations are within and adjacent to areas used for recreation, bike riding and dog walking. Trampling of plants may occur and compaction of the soil may affect drainage.
Altered fire regime, including lack of fire.
Illegal dumping of material and garden waste.
Competition and changes to soil and microclimate with weed invasion.
Infrastructure maintenance within close proximity to the plants.
Grazing, browsing and potentially mechanical disturbance by rabbits.
Competition with native plants including Acacia spp., Cassytha glabella and Pittosporum undulatum.
Loss due to small population size on areas that do not have sufficient population to be self-sustaining.
