Description

Caladenia attenuata is an unusually tall terrestrial orchid, to 24cm high with white flowers, usually <10mm across. The dorsal sepal (back flower part) is lax, hooding the column; and the midlobe of the labellum (distinctive median petal) has entire wrinkled margins. The orchid flowers in spring, usually between October and November.

Distribution

Caladenia attenuata is endemic to NSW. It has a highly restricted distribution, having been recorded from 2 localities within the Bathurst Ilford region with an area of occupance estimated to be 8 square kilometres. Surveys undertaken in 2013 failed to find the species even though searches were undertaken within the known flowering period and during favourable conditions. During the survey an unconfirmed specimen from the Ilford site was found.
