Description

Cameron's Tarenna is a small tree in the coffee family, growing to 6 m tall, with glossy foliage and finely fissured, slightly corky bark. The broad, smooth, pointed leaves are paired on the stem. The leaves are dark green above and lighter green below, with a scar between the leaves. New shoots emerge most unusually, not at the base of the leaf, but up to 1 cm farther up the stem. The flowers are small and white and at the ends of the branchlets, and are followed by egg-shaped black fruits, 7 – 8 mm long, enclosing two seeds. Formerly known as Tarenna cameronii.
