Description

A spreading shrub to 1.5 m tall with bristly branches. Its leaves are broad with a spiky tip, 6 - 12 mm long and 3 - 5 mm wide, with fine teeth along the edges. The single hanging flowers are a clear yellow-green colour with fine red stripes and are 12 - 14 mm long.

Distribution

Known from a few populations near Cathedral Rock National Park and New England National Park, on the eastern edge of the New England Tablelands of NSW and a single population near Coolacurrippa, west of Comboyne on the mid-north coast.

Habitat and ecology

Occurs in dry forest on ridges and gentle slopes, on sandy shallow soils over granite and trachyte, and shrublands surrounding swamps.
Populations tend to be on broad ridges and gentle slopes at 1250–1500 m above sea level.
Flowering occurs in September

Threats

High frequency and intensity fires has the potential to cause population extinction due to small population size and lack of resprouting.
The species is susceptible to extinction via stochastic processes due to its small known population size and restricted distribution.
Trampling of plants by bushwalkers and campers.
Clearing of habitat for agriculture and grazing.
Susceptibility to dieback caused by root rot fungus (Phytophthora cinnamomi).
Grazing by domestic stock.
Road and track maintenance.
Picking by wildflower enthusiasts.
Disturbance by feral pigs.
Lack of knowledge on the impact of herbivory and trampling by feral deer.
