Habitat

Deep loamy red-brown sands on level to gently undulating sand plains and in dune swales

Distribution

Dunefields on the Cobar peneplain and west from the Hay Plain to Scotia, extending into north-west Vic and south-east SA

Notes

A widespread group of assemblages with relatively consistent composition, sharing close floristic affinities with Dune mallee, but with greater shrub dominance and little or no Triodia. Also has limited affinities with Southern semi-arid sandplain woodlands. Fragmented and degraded by extensive clearing for cropping and grazing. Some areas mapped as Sandplain mallee on the south Cobar peneplain are likely to include Dune mallee.
