Structure
Open eucalypt forest or woodland up to 20 m tall with open sclerophyllous shrub stratum and a patchy groundcover of grasses.
Trees
Eucalyptus albens (white box), E. blakelyi (Blakelys red gum), E. goniocalyx (bundy), E. macrorhyncha (red stringybark), E. nortonii (large-flowered bundy), E. polyanthemos subsp. polyanthemos (red box), E. sideroxylon (mugga). Occasionally, Callitris endlicheri (black cypress pine) and C. glaucophylla (white cypress pine) are also present.
Shrubs
Acacia dealbata (silver wattle), A. deanei subsp. paucijuga (Deans wattle), Brachyloma daphnoides (daphne heath), Cassinia arcuata (sifton bush), Hibbertia obtusifolia, Lissanthe strigosa (peach heath), Stypandra glauca (nodding blue lily).
Forbs
Daucus glochidiatus (native carrot), Gonocarpus tetragynus, Hydrocotyle laxiflora (stinking pennywort), Hypericum gramineum (small St. Johns wort), Lomandra filiformis subsp. coriacea (wattle mat-rush), L. filiformis subsp. filiformis (wattle mat-rush), Cheilanthes sieberi subsp. sieberi (poison rock fern), Austrodanthonia pilosa var. pilosa (smooth-flowered wallaby grass), Austrostipa scabra subsp. falcata, Elymus scaber var. scaber (common wheatgrass), Poa sieberiana var. sieberiana (snowgrass).
Habitat
Dry sites in undulating terrain or steep rocky slopes between 300 and 700 m elevation, on soils of moderate fertility derived from granites and metamorphosed siltstones.
Distribution
Western fall of the southern tableland, mainly area between Burrinjuck and Albury, though they extend a short distance into Victoria. They also occur in the Snowy River gorge in a rain shadow on the eastern side of the Main Range.
Notes
These forests share a number of species with Grassy Woodlands of the Southern Tablelands and Western Slopes, which occur on more fertile soils, Western Slopes Dry Sclerophyll Forests, which occur in drier regions, and Southern Tableland Dry Sclerophyll Forests. Stands in the Snowy River gorge are closely related to North-west Slopes Dry Sclerophyll Forests and warrant further examination.
