Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....
There are 1 threatened species in New South Wales matching the above criteria which have current Priority action plans. A total of 20 current Priority actions have been identified to help recover these species.

Coordinate the implementation of recovery actions to ensure efficient and effective management of the species. This should be done in conjunction with the formation of a Red-fruited Ebony working group. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
Collect seed for NSW Seedbank. Develop collection program in collaboration with BGT - multiple provenances. Specifically, collect seed at all known localities during January and February over 3 seasons (about 2000 seedlings are needed for enhancement plan Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Liaosn is required with landholders at six localities identified in the recovery plan to formalise agreement for access to undertake proposed research and management activities. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Identify priority areas for future survey in areas of potential habitat to clarify our understanding of Diospyros mabacea distribution. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
Undertake survey in known areas of potential habitat such as identified in the recovery plan for Diospyros mabacea. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
Site assessment is required to enable the current condition of sites to be evaluated and management actions to be ascertained. The method for site assessment is provided in the recovery plan for this species. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Undertake research into the genetics of the species to guide management on conservation priorities at different locations. Allozyme analysis is the proposed research method. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
Research into breeding systems and reproductive strategies will be required to examine resource limitations that may affect reproductive success. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Investigate seed viability, germination, dormancy and longevity (in natural environment and in storage). Undertake germination trials in conjunction with breeding systems research and population enhancement actions to examine growth response in various co Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Three sites at Mount Warning Arboretum, Chick Park and Eungella Dip are proposed for additional plantings of Diospyros mabacea with the aim of achieving populations of at least 50 well established plants with genotypes representative of each location. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Eight monitoring sites are identified in the recovery plan for the establishment of permanent quadrats to measure changes in Diospyros mabacea populations. Monitoring and reporting procedures are provided in the recovery plan. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
Promote understanding and awareness of the conservation issues facing Diospyros mabacea by undertaking a public education program and developing interpretative signs for the Eungella and Tyalgum sites. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Negotiate with landholders to secure populations by reservation or VCA at 6 localities identified in the recovery plan. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
Undertake habitat rehabilitation in accordance with the current management plan for the population at Tyalgum showground which is a Crown Reserve. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Liaise with private landholders to facilitate implementation of habitat management actions such as weeding and/or slashing of regrowth at localities of Limpinwood and Eungella. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Liaise with landholders in the localities of Limpinwood, Eungella and Tyalgum (if acquired as a nature reserve) to reduce disturbance by grazing stock using fencing. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Reserve Fire management Strategy to include operational guidelines to protect this species from fire. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
Weed control is required at all 8 sites. Target weeds at each site are identified in the recovery plan. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees High
At all rehabilitation sites where sparse canopy cover or open ground exists, rainforest pioneers and secondary phase trees need to be established to provide protection for mature phase seedlings. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Low
Population enhancement is recommended for sites at the head of Oxley River and at Stotts Island. Population targets for these two localities and the remaining 6 localities are identified in the recovery plan. Diospyros mabacea Red-fruited Ebony Plant > Trees Medium
