Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....
There are 1 threatened species in New South Wales matching the above criteria which have current Priority action plans. A total of 19 current Priority actions have been identified to help recover these species.

Contribute conservation presentations to field days and community events. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Low
Encourage conservation through rangeland management practices that maintain and enhance populations, and address threats (e.g. lower stocking rates in known habitat, appropriate fire management). Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Encourage landholders to enter Voluntary Conservation Agreements and/or other site management agreements. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Opportunistically monitor populations after wildfire to determine fire ecology. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Low
Conduct long term monitoring of known locations to determine changes in status of the species in response to grazing. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Assess published fire research of the species and develop knowledge of fire ecology for the species in NSW. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Identify three representative populations (per year over initial three years); focus research actions and adaptive management at these sites then apply knowledge to other populations. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Conduct additional surveys to confirm known populations, assess regeneration status and locate new ones. Redo Auld 1990 survey of population status across entire dirstibution. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Reserve Fire Management Strategy for Kinchega NP to include operational guidelines to protect this species from fire, with a fire frequency of >10 years. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Provide map of known occurrences to Rural Fire Service and seek a fire frequency of >10 years on Bush Fire Risk Management Plan(s), risk register and/or operation map(s). Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Develop educational material to encourage the community to protect and rehabilitate habitat. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Low
Control feral goats and rabbits (best practice: locally/regionally efficient and effective) in association with known populations. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Develop preferred mitigation measures to minimize impact of wildfire and/or suppression operations. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Give high priority to further rabbit control in areas on pastoral leases, particularly leading into drought and after a series of good rains. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Conduct long term monitoring of selected locations, including fenced sites, to determine changes in status of the species. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
At priority sites, close, or prevent access to artificial watering points by feral goats and kangaroos. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Fence off populations from grazing by rabbits, stock, goats and kangaroos; allow for population growth in fenced areas; include these areas in ecological monitoring programs for the species. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Protect known seed sources (successful seed production is limited to very few populations) and manage these sites. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Liaise with the Department of Lands to ensure that they are aware of the location and significance of populations in order to secure their conservation. Acacia carneorum Purple-wood Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
