Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....
There are 1 threatened species in New South Wales matching the above criteria which have current Priority action plans. A total of 16 current Priority actions have been identified to help recover these species.

Develop educational material to encourage the community to protect and rehabilitate habitat. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Low
Opportunistically monitor populations after wildfire to determine fire ecology. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Conduct long term monitoring of known locations to determine changes in status of the species. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Assess published fire research of the species and develop knowledge of fire ecology for the species in NSW . Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Investigate options for undertaking research into regeneration, including seed-set, germination and seedling survival. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Identify three representative populations (per year over initial two years); focus research actions and adaptive management at these sites then apply knowledge to other populations. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Conduct baseline surveys to confirm less known sites and develop and implement conservation management agreements for high priority sites. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Develop an Expression of Interest (EOI) for incentives targeted towards private landowners to locate new sites for conservation. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Control feral goats and rabbits (best practice: locally/regionally efficient and effective). Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Ensure awareness of species location and identification for all personnel undertaking maintenance of road verges, trails, quarrying and mining activities. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Close, or prevent access to artificial watering points by feral goats and kangaroos in regions where the species occurs. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Fence off populations from grazing by rabbits, stock, goats and kangaroos; allow for population growth in fenced areas; include these areas in ecological monitoring programs for the species. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Ensure that Development Applications are carefully assessed to deter further clearing of potential habitat. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Provide fencing and signage to prevent impacts from quarrying activities. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs High
Encourage conservation through rangeland management practices that maintain and enhance populations, and address threats (e.g.. lower DSE in known habitat, appropriate fire management). Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
Conduct research to determine ecological requirements, including fire ecology and response to disturbance and undertake field studies to monitor and insect attack on seeds, seedling establishment and survivorship. Acacia curranii Curly-bark Wattle Plant > Shrubs Medium
