Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....
There are 1 threatened species in New South Wales matching the above criteria which have current Priority action plans. A total of 9 current Priority actions have been identified to help recover these species.

Provide relevant landcare & community groups with information, support and guidance to assist in identifying the species and selecting appropriate sites for tree planting and other bush regen activities that will not impact on S.plagiotropis. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs High
Conduct research into population dynamics (mortality & recruitment rates), competition pressure and seedbank composition. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs Medium
Investigate seed viability, germination, dormancy and longevity (in natural environment and in storage). Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs Medium
Conduct experimental research into the effects of fire, grazing and other disturbances. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs Medium
Identify at least 6 populations across the species range for the implementation of recovery actions. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs High
Prevent cultivation of grasslands where the species occurs. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs High
Liaise with landholders to conduct light, intermittent grazing in areas where the species occurs on their land and to remove stock altogether during wet periods to avoid pugging and soil disturbance. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs High
Identify the key sites that have already been nominated for conservation action and assess their suitability as such and identify threats and management actions for the sites. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs High
Establish a comprehensive monitoring program for the 6 sites to determine the success or otherwise of recovery actions and to guide future conservation actions. Swainsona plagiotropis Red Darling Pea Plant > Herbs and Forbs High
