Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....

Identify at least 6 currently inhabited sites across the species range for recovery actions to be implemented. Surveys should be conducted when soils are moist but not inundated and should include depressions along roadsides and railway lines. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads High
Improve knowledge and understanding of the species' ecology by conducting research into biology and regeneration. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads Medium
Understand the species response to disturbance regimes by conducting experimental research into the effects of fire, flooding, trampling and grazing disturbance, in order to guide recovery actions. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads Medium
Erect signage and stock-proof fencing around all roadside sites to protect the species from vehicle, stock and roadwork's disturbances. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads High
Remove exotic species such as Plantago lanceolata, Cyperus tenellus, Bromus hordeaceus and Lilaea scilloides in areas of known or likely habitat. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads High
Establish a comprehensive monitoring program for the 6 identified populations to determine the success or otherwise of recovery actions and to guide future actions. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads High
Prohibit any changes to landscape hydrology and land use in areas where the species remains. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads High
Map all known sites of Austral Pillwort and provide maps to all consent and planning authorities, landholders and other stakeholders or interest groups, including the RTA, to assist in planning roadside or other works. Pilularia novae-hollandiae Austral Pillwort Plant > Ferns and Cycads Medium
